About Laparoscopy Centre

In keeping with the Al Shifa Hospital’s mission of brining international surgicare, especially the Laparoscopic Surgery, which has taken the whole world by storm; also known as Key-Hole Surgery, within the reach of every patient, it was decided to start the Al Shifa Laparoscopic Centre, recently, in order to deliver better diagnostic and therapeutic benefits to the patient.

Laparoscopic Surgery, also known as Minimally Invasive Surgery to patients, has recently been developed in the field of various surgeries for a variety of diseases affecting the organs like the Gall Bladder, Pancreas, Liver, and the urologic organs (including Kidney, Adrenal Gland, Ureter, Bladder, Prostate, Lymph Nodes), as well as, their problems, with the advancement of engineering and computer technologies. Using a small telescope with built-in magnification mechanism and a variety of long, thin surgical instruments placed through approximately 3-5 incisions (each of which is usually no larger than a dime in size), the surgeon is able to perform minimally invasive surgery for all the above diseases. Patients who have undergone these procedures have enjoyed not only the same diagnostic and therapeutic benefits and advantages of the traditional open surgery, but also greatly reduced postoperative pain, shorter hospitalization, faster recovery, and better cosmetic results.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (removal of the gall bladder) has become the procedure of choice and the standard treatment for Gall Bladder disease. It is amazing how fast these patients recover, compared to the Conventional Laparotomy. If gall stones have moved into the bile ducts, surgeons can also remove these stones laparoscopically.

Laparoscopic surgery has also been applied to a multitude of benign (non-cancerous) and malignant (oncologic or cancerous) urologic problems, besides conditions affecting a variety of urologic organs.

One application of Laparoscopy/Minimally Invasive Surgery is kidney cancer removal. Using only 3 small puncture holes, the entire kidney may be removed (Transperitoneal/Retroperitoneal Laparoscopic Radical Nephrectomy). Large cut (frequently in excess of 10 centimeters) associated with the conventional surgery can be avoided.

Al Shifa Laparoscopic Centre is designed and dedicated to offer our patients the best ever treatment possible and the latest benefits of Laparoscopic Surgery, in the days to come.
